Sahapedia: the Bhakti Movement
The Bhakti movement refers to religious ideas that argued that devotees could forge powerful personal relations with the divine to gain enlightenment, bypassing temples, scriptures and ritual knowledge.
Most Bhakti traditions incorporate practices that revolve around the idea of sacrifice, incorporate personal experiences as well as creative expressions of them, involve journeys and often have a deeply inclusive instinct.
We made a series of films for Sahapedia on the Bhakti movement that looked at some of its key characteristics, mystics and pilgrimages over time.
